Public Announcement: Call for Academic Contributors
Project Description:
The Tigray Data Repository (TDR), in collaboration with Omna Tigray, is running a small-scale project to develop a centralized list of articles, books, and investigative reports published in the past five years and specifically related to the Tigray War. In that regard, we are looking for two qualified, committed, ambitious, and data-driven academic professionals based at universities in Tigray to assist the team in meeting these objectives.
In recent years, we have observed many academic and non-academic works related to the war become increasingly difficult to access. Some links have broken over time, while other materials appear to have been intentionally removed from public access. This digital erasure creates an urgent need to preserve and organize these materials in a central place.
The project aims to address this challenge by creating a centralized repository that supports our broader documentation efforts on the Tigray Genocide. Through preserving accessible versions of these materials, we can ensure that important records remain available for research, advocacy, community use, and accountability, even when the original sources become difficult to locate.
Centralizing these resources creates an important opportunity for further analysis and study. When materials are scattered across different platforms, researchers and advocates often have to examine them in isolation. When they are organized in one repository, however, they become part of a larger dataset that can support stronger research, clearer patterns, and more informed analysis for our just cause.
Ultimately, our mission is to compile these articles, books, and reports into a single dataset. A well-organized repository will greatly benefit researchers, advocates, community members, and future generations by making these vital records easy to locate, preserve, and use for academic and reference purposes.
The Role:
We are looking for two qualified, committed, ambitious, and data-driven academic professionals who have been actively documenting or closely following the events of the war and are committed to meticulously synthesizing data in line with TDR’s vision and mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, verify, collect, and categorize academic articles, books, and investigative reports related to the war from various sources, including but not limited to academic journals, international organizations, and other online platforms.
- Organize the collected resources into a central folder and create a dedicated dataset/database containing metadata, content, and a "Tags" system for each resource. Both the dataset and folder should be categorized by major field, sector, or thematic area.
- Write and publish a brief report analyzing key statistics and trends from the created datasets.
Qualifications:
- Current academic staff member – Master’s or higher – at a university in Tigray.
- Strong understanding of the socio-political landscape and the timeline of events during the war.
- Complemented by personal qualities such as collaboration, teamwork, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing rigorous, high-quality work aligned with TDR’s vision and mission.
- Proven experience publishing academic papers, especially on topics related to the war, as well as solid knowledge of data collection and analysis methodologies.
Budget:
- The total allocated budget for this project is $1000. This amount is intended to cover payments to both researchers and any project-related expenses they may incur during the project period.
- Payments will be made monthly and tied to the progress and project deliverables.
